    Euro area’s manufacturing sector stagnates while EU output edges up by 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – Eurostat’s latest report shows that industrial output in the euro area remained flat in June 2026 compared to May, whereas the European Union experienced a 0.2% rise. Seasonally adjusted figures indicate a 0.3% monthly growth in both regions during May. Year-over-year, production increased by 0.1% in the euro area and 0.6% across the EU. The data reveal a mixed picture across key industrial sectors and member states. The report covers industry excluding construction and uses seasonally adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    In the eurozone, the production of non-durable consumer goods led the monthly gains, rising by 3.0%. Energy output increased by 1.5%, while durable consumer goods saw a 0.3% uptick. Conversely, capital goods production dropped by 1.4%, and intermediate goods declined by 0.8%. These shifts kept the overall industrial production index at 98.7, unchanged from May on a base of 100 for 2021. In May, non-durable consumer goods increased by 3.3%, energy by 2.6%, and capital goods by 0.5%.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods output grew by 2.5% in June, with energy production rising 1.0%. Durable consumer goods increased by 0.9%, while capital goods output fell by 0.9%. Intermediate goods declined by 0.7% compared to May. The EU industrial production index reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. It was at 99.2 in January and experienced five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Wide monthly variations observed among member states

    Among EU countries with available data, Denmark posted the highest monthly growth at 5.4% in June. Croatia followed with a 5.2% increase, while Lithuania and Finland each advanced by 2.1%. Luxembourg registered the most significant decline at 10.7%, with Portugal down 3.9% and Estonia decreasing by 2.2%. Germany’s output edged up by 0.2%, France remained flat, Italy’s production fell by 1.0%, and Spain saw a decline of 0.7%. Ireland increased by 2.0%, the Netherlands declined by 1.7%, and Slovenia also decreased by 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, industrial output in the eurozone grew by 0.1% in June. Within this period, intermediate goods increased by 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods by 0.1%. Meanwhile, durable consumer goods declined by 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods dropped by 0.5%. Across the EU, total production was up by 0.6% compared to June 2025. Intermediate goods rose by 1.0%, energy increased by 0.3%, and capital goods gained 0.9%, whereas both consumer categories experienced declines.

    Lithuania shows the strongest yearly industrial expansion

    Lithuania led annual growth among member states with available data, recording a 7.7% increase. Denmark followed with a 6.1% rise, and Poland experienced a 4.9% growth. Finland increased 4.6%, Hungary rose 4.1%, and Czechia gained 4.0%. Luxembourg saw the largest annual decline at 7.9%, while Romania fell 5.6%, and Estonia declined by 4.6%. Germany and France each decreased by 0.5%, Italy fell by 0.6%, and Spain increased by 1.0% compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also revised its estimates for May’s industrial production figures from the July 15 release. The euro-area monthly change has been adjusted to a 0.3% increase, up from a previously reported 0.2% decline. The EU’s monthly figure was revised to a 0.3% gain from an earlier 0.1% fall. For May, annual output was adjusted to a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% rise within the EU. Eurostat calculates the regional figures from seasonally adjusted national data, estimating recent missing observations when compiling the totals.
